About Us

The Social Front is an association of workers’ collectives, trade unions, and both formal and informal professional communities and associations. It emerged from the mass movement that began with student blockades, strikes, and protests across the country, in a common struggle to meet the students’ demands and to build a just, solidaristic, and accountable democratic society.

The alliance of students, workers, and farmers was formalized for the first time at the “Side by Side” (Rame uz rame) protest in Belgrade on 8 March. The Social Front grew out of that cooperation. The Front is not a political party and does not seek to participate in elections.

What we want

We are building a confederation of workers’ collectives and professional associations from different sectors that will act together for systemic change. We stand for the fulfillment of the students’ demands and the demands of the Program Minimum, for a permanent democratic structure that keeps decision-makers under continuous oversight and pressure, and for the right of all who live by their labor to take part in the decisions that affect their sector, their local community, and society as a whole.

How we work

We decide by direct democracy: a majority vote of sectors at general assemblies, with proposals developed in working groups. Every struggle that follows our principles is a common struggle. We act independently of political parties, foundations, and organizations that do not share our views. We believe people are social beings who realize their full potential in a community of equals.

Members of the Front are organized by sector and jointly draft the Program Minimum for their fields. Beyond sectoral reforms, we also support amendments to the Labor Law and the Strike Law, drafted in cooperation with students and five national trade unions.

We call on workers’ collectives, trade unions, and professional associations that support the students’ demands to join the Social Front.
