Public Goods = Value, Not a Commodity

Call for a protest on 13 September at Slavija against the transformation of public enterprises.

On Saturday, 13 September, from 5 PM, we gather at Slavija Square. We are organizing the protest “Public goods = value, not a commodity” together with the citizens’ assemblies.

The authorities plan to transform as many as 142 public enterprises by the end of the year. Transformation into joint-stock or limited liability companies weakens the public system and opens an easier path to privatization. Electricity, water, and heating must remain available to everyone, not become a privilege.

Our demands:

  • That all state-owned enterprises responsible for public goods, critical infrastructure, and other activities of general interest, which have been transformed into joint-stock or limited liability companies, have the special protected status of a public enterprise restored.
  • The adoption of a law requiring that those enterprises remain permanently in that status and forbidding any change of ownership from state to private.

We set off from Slavija toward the Ministry of Education, the Government of Serbia, and the Ministry of Mining and Energy.

This is the struggle we have already set out in the Declaration of the Social Front. We invite all citizens to come.
